Biography
Dr. Iman Jalilvand is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Materials and Manufacturing Research Institute (MMRI) and Research Associate with the Create in Immersive Technologies (CITech) program at UBC Okanagan. His research bridges extended reality (XR), artificial intelligence (AI/ML), and advanced manufacturing, focusing on intelligent training systems and data-driven decision-support platforms for industrial applications.
With over five years of experience in XR development and reinforcement learning, Dr. Jalilvand designs immersive systems that enhance operator training, process optimization, and knowledge transfer in manufacturing. His work has been recognized with several awards, including the UBC Dean’s Award for Knowledge Translation and Entrepreneurship, McCall MacBain Postdoctoral Leadership Certification, and Silver Award at the HCI International Conference.
At UBC, he leads projects integrating XR-based learning environments with adaptive analytics to study user performance, cognitive engagement, and human–AI collaboration. Beyond research, he teaches and develops XR- and Unity-focused curricula for both undergraduate and graduate students, fostering hands-on, interdisciplinary learning across computer science, engineering, and management.
