This and last week, world leaders in mathematics, computer science, data science and statistics joined science, technology, engineering, and mathematics

(STEM) graduate students on UBCO’s campus as a part of unique programming offered through the Banff International Research Station (BIRS).

The two-week summer school, which offers local graduate students and faculty members the opportunity to access, interact and engage in world-class instruction in the exciting field of optimization, is hosted by the UBCO campus, and sponsored by BIRS and the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute (MSRI) based at the University of California-Berkeley.

The summer school is part of a larger set of programming, focusing on providing graduate students and faculty members with learning and engagement opportunities. This summer has seen UBCO’s campus host 10 research workshops held in a cross-section of STEM disciplines. Up to 20 researchers have been attracted to the campus for five days of study and collaboration, presenting the latest developments in their areas of expertise.
